Lemons aren’t just for smoothies and in your food, they can also be used to ensure your food is kept fresh and can, in its pure form, have its benefits. Why not try these four different ways to use lemons?
1. Breathe new life into your limp lettuce by adding lemon juice. Soak your soggy lettuce in a bowl of cold water with half a lemon squeezed in and leave it in the fridge for an hour. You leaves will be crisp and revived afterwards, just dry off once you’ve taken them out of bowl.
2. Cutting up fruit and vegetables the night or morning before you need them can make them go brown and to stop that niggling problem but squeezing some lemon into cold water and placing your fruit and veg in the bowl. This works on apples, bananas, pears, as well as avocados and potatoes.
3. To give your immune system a boost in the morning, add a slice or two to warm or cold water and give your immune and digestive health a kick.
4. Make a hole in the top of a lemon and suck out the juice – weird I know – but it helps you with fatigue if you’re on a long walk or have been exercising for a while. Be careful with the sharpness though!
